#20: The Departed

I decided to start my reviews with my favorites of all time. So starting with #20 and finishing with my #1, here is my completely subjective list of favorite movies. Surprisingly, this ended up being the only DiCaprio, Damon, or Nicholson movie to make my list.

Could you imagine getting to be at that table...
The Departed is a classic. It’s as simple as that. Great performances from Damon and DiCaprio (albeit with some shaky accents that crash and burn in the second half), and a truly marvelous turn from Jack Nicholson as Frank Costello. With a deep cast this is just an all-around great movie.

This was the first Jack Nicholson movie I had ever seen, and he steals every scene. There is some very strong writing and the directing that got Martin Scorsese his (for some tragic reason his first and only) Academy Award. It's such a solid film, it's tough to even defend - it speaks for itself. This movie really is everything you could hope for from the genre; Scorsese unsurprisingly gets it all right.
